Accomplishments

Martin Heinrich represents the historic and diverse Southeast Heights community on the Albuquerque City Council. On the council, he has promoted growth of new industries and good jobs, fought for an increase to the minimum wage strengthened our communities and cracked down on crime while maintaining the valuable neighborhood qualities that exemplify our community.

Giving Workers a Raise

Martin worked tirelessly with the business community, labor organizations and other elected officials to increase the minimum wage in Albuquerque to $7.50. Martin's long campaign finally succeeded when the city passed a minimum wage increase into law.

Cracking Down on Crime

  • Attacked meth labs aggressively by restricting sales of products with meth making ingredients, resulting in a drop in illegal meth production across Albuquerque
  • Banned alcohol sales of liquor singles to prevent public intoxication, violence and crime
  • Cracked down on crime-infested motels by stepping up inspections and shutting down properties that wouldn't clean up
  • Cleaned up vacant buildings by ensuring that owners kept their buildings clean and safe
  • Fought graffiti by restricting the sale of products used for defacing property

Effective Planning for Our Future

  • Made big-box storefronts more attractive with new design guidelines.
  • Increased funding for community improvements such as parks, roads, and public safety by ensuring that wealthy developers paid their fair share
  • Worked with Councilor Michael Cadigan on westside issues including the protection of the Petroglyph National Monument

Protecting Our Environment

  • Led the fight to protect 327 acres in Tijeras Canyon
  • Voted to protect Bosque land in the Rio Grande State Park
  • Created incentives to make hybrid cars more affordable for Albuquerque residents
  • Re-introduced weekly curbside recycling pickup
