Economy & Jobs

While middle-class families in New Mexico are struggling to pay their mortgages and keep food on the table, Republicans in Washington are fighting for tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans. Martin believes that for too long, the game has been rigged in favor of huge corporations and the super-rich. In the Senate, his top priority will be to bring good jobs back to New Mexico.

Martin knows that every single job counts – which is why he has held six job fairs in the last two years. These job fairs serve to connect private sector companies that are hiring with qualified applicants. Martin has also hosted two financial wellness fairs, which work to educate New Mexico consumers on how best to manage money and address financial problems at home – before they turn into crises.

Even in the worst days of this economic recession, New Mexico’s technology sector has continued to grow. With a background in engineering, Martin will work in the Senate to ensure that our burgeoning science and technology companies have the infrastructure and support they need to thrive. These are high-value, high-wage jobs that have the potential to put us back on a sustainable path of economic growth.

Martin believes that for America to be successful, we need trade and tax policies that put the US and every other country on a level playing field. Right now, countries like China have a huge advantage because of their low wages and terrible working conditions. Martin has fought bad trade deals that send our jobs overseas and has worked to close tax loopholes for US companies that outsource American jobs.
