A Middle Class Tax Cut
In Congress, Martin Heinrich will champion reforms to the tax code, including a permanent tax cut for middle-class families and simplifying the process to make it fairer to all New Mexicans.
Martin will make a permanent tax cut for the middle class a top priority when he is in Congress. Individuals and couples making less than $250,000 would get a significant tax cut, helping struggling middle-class families in New Mexico and boosting our flagging economy.
Martin believes small businesses are the foundation of the American economy, and as Albuquerque City Councilor, he worked hard to help grow and support small business right here in New Mexico. That's why when he goes to Congress, Martin Heinrich will support tax breaks for small businesses. This includes a tax credit for businesses that provide their employees health and wellness programs, ensuring small businesses are able to meet the high cost of providing comprehensive health coverage.
Following the great work of New Mexican leaders Tom Udall and Jeff Bingaman, Martin Heinrich will build on their efforts in Congress and promote a long-term extension of the Wind Production Tax Credit. Extending renewable energy tax credits will signal to investors the reliability of these incentives, encouraging long-term investment in New Mexico's emerging renewable energy economy.
To support our thriving research community right here in New Mexico, Martin will support the reinstatement and extension of the Research and Development Tax Credit that Congress let expire at the end of 2007.
