Martin Heinrich for U.S. Senate Internship Announcement
The Heinrich for Senate campaign is seeking qualified interns to assist our Field, Finance, Political, Research, and New Media departments with the 2012 U.S. Senate race. Our internship program is designed to give students substantial exposure to practical, campaign-style politics on a statewide level. Interns will have exposure to state and local political and civic leaders. Interns will be able to get an insider's view of some of the strategies, policies, and procedures, followed by statewide campaigns. Our goal is to expose interns to all aspects of a statewide campaign while providing them with skills and networks to further their professional development.
Interns will provide support to the project staff by assisting with program development, research, and daily administrative duties as assigned. While these positions are unpaid, internships are an outstanding way to learn about how policy, people, and politics work together and affect our state. This is also an excellent opportunity to gain work experience in an office setting and develop leadership and professional skills.
Interns will be based at our Albuquerque headquarters and must be able to provide their own transportation. Hours will vary and we will work with your class schedule. You must work a minimum of 192 hours per semester if you wish to receive college credit. Non-credit seeking interns are asked to work a minimum of 15 hours a week.
The ideal candidate must possess the following:
- Professionalism in appearance and office etiquette
- Reliability in attendance and performance of duties
- Ability to research and use good judgment in information dissemination
- Ability to work independently as well as respond to direction
- Finish assigned work quickly, thoroughly, and accurately
- Good analytical and communication skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other applicable computer programs
Interns working for credit must attend a designated internship orientation in the Spring of 2012 to receive college credit for their intern hours. If an intern is unable to attend this orientation you will be unable to receive college credit.
