Martin Heinrich For Congress

Heinrich Clear Democratic Frontrunner in 1st Congressional District

Heinrich: "People across the 1st District are supporting this campaign because they know I will be a voice for middle class families in Washington."

Albuquerque, NM – Former Albuquerque City Councilor and Democratic candidate for Congress Martin Heinrich today released his fundraising totals for the first quarter of 2008. Heinrich has raised an impressive $665,000 total this cycle – including $200,000 in the first quarter. Heinrich has consistently outraised all of his Democratic opponents, and has more cash on hand (nearly $350,000) than his chief Republican rival. Perhaps most impressively, Heinrich has received donations from over 2,000 individuals to date.

The release of Heinrich’s fundraising numbers comes on the heels of his strong showing at the Democratic Pre-Primary Convention, where he received 56% of the vote, which was double that of his nearest opponent.

"I'm proud and humbled by the outpouring of support I’ve received from folks across this district," Heinrich said today. "For months, we have focused on building both the grassroots and fundraising infrastructure that we will need to win in June and in November – and our huge successes at the convention and in this most recent fundraising period are proof that this campaign has what it takes to succeed."

Heinrich has consolidated Democratic support at a rapid pace, receiving 15 union endorsements as well as the support of such high-profile organizations such as the League of Conservation Voters, Conservation Voters New Mexico, the Sierra Club, Citizens for Global Solutions, the Pueblos of Zia and Jemez, and a substantial base of elected officials and community leaders.
