ICYMI: Santa Fe New Mexican Highlights Heinrich’s Commitment to Working-Class New Mexicans, Draws Clear Contrast with Domenici

ALBUQUERQUE, NM —  In case you missed it, the Santa Fe New Mexican’s latest profile on the state of the Senate race highlights the stark differences between Senator Martin Heinrich and challenger Nella Domenici.

Heinrich, who grew up in a working class household, has dedicated his career to policies that help working New Mexicans, while Domenici, a multimillionaire former hedge fund executive, has spent decades in elite financial circles far removed from everyday realities.

The New Mexican highlights Heinrich’s deep connection to New Mexico, which began when he moved to the state as a young engineer in 1995. The article quotes Heinrich proudly discussing his track record: “He’s proud of the work he’s done for the state, he added, including passing a bill that was ‘the biggest expansion of VA benefits for our veterans in several decades’ and the creation of high-quality jobs.” Heinrich also emphasized the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act, which is bringing historic manufacturing investments to New Mexico, noting, “We’re building the single largest clean energy project ever built in the Western Hemisphere, and it’s right here in New Mexico.”

The article underscores Heinrich’s working-class roots: his father was a utility lineman, and his mother was a seamstress, a background that informs his commitment to policies that improve opportunities for New Mexico’s working families and veterans. By contrast, Domenici, the daughter of a powerful U.S. senator, has spent the last five decades in elite financial roles, most notably as an executive for the world’s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates. The New Mexican highlights the vast wealth she and her husband accumulated, stating, “According to published reports, Domenici and her husband reported assets estimated between $21.2 million and $94 million.”

Domenici and her campaign have largely avoided articulating specific policies aimed at improving the lives of New Mexico’s working families, but Domenici has at times aligned herself with the national Republican agenda. In the article she expresses praise for Trump-era energy policies stating, “There are some policy pieces that Donald Trump did embrace that I think helped America be a much stronger country and help New Mexico.”

“Martin Heinrich has always remained true to his roots, spending his career fighting for New Mexico’s working families,”
said Brad Elkins, Heinrich’s campaign manager. “Nella Domenici has spent decades prioritizing profits over people, and all indications suggest she would continue to do so if elected.”
