STATEMENT: Martin Heinrich Secures Re-Election to Third Term in the U.S. Senate
ALBUQUERQUE, NM—Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM) released the following statement after winning re-election to serve a third term in the U.S. Senate, marking a continued commitment to building a future of opportunity and progress for New Mexico:
“Tonight’s victory belongs to every New Mexican who shares our belief that we can build a better, brighter future for our people. But even as we take in this moment, we know that our work is far from over. This election was about much more than any one campaign or candidate. It was about the future we’re building together for New Mexico.
This campaign has been about fighting for a future of freedom, opportunity, and progress. A future where good-paying jobs are available in every community, where every family has access to affordable health care, where children feel safe in their classrooms, where our lands and waters are protected for future generations, and where every woman has the right to make her own decisions about what happens to her body.
This election was about standing up for the values that unite us and rejecting the politics of division and fear. And tonight, the people of New Mexico sent a clear message that they want a future built on freedom, opportunity, and hope. As we look ahead, I’m energized by the chance to continue working with all of you to tackle the challenges we face. In the Senate, we have a lot to do to build on what we’ve accomplished, and to safeguard the progress we’ve made.
The stakes are too high for us to rest on past victories. Whether it’s defending women’s rights, combating climate change, bringing down costs on prescriptions drugs and energy, protecting our Social Security and Medicare, addressing the fentanyl crisis, or ensuring every child in New Mexico has access to a quality education, there is still so much more we can, and must, accomplish.
Tonight, we celebrate, but tomorrow, the hard work continues. Thank you again, New Mexico. Thank you for standing by me, for putting your faith and trust in me, and for believing in our shared vision. I am honored, humbled, and ready to keep fighting for our future.”
